PLANNING: THE GHOST'S COSTUME

For The Ghost's costume my group and I decided that he would wear something quite smart/ casual since he is the boss of the big operation and therefore we felt that he should look presentable - to make him look more like a proper business man.  The fact that he is wearing an expensive shirt and trousers suggests that The Ghost has made large amounts of money with this deal (to do with selling illegal passports to refugees and immigrants) - emphasising how important he is and just how big the operation really is.

Below is a picture of The Ghost's costume.

CONSTRUCTION: FILMING WAREHOUSE SCENE

Today my group and I did further filming for our trailer. The filming took place in a building which is currently under construction. We chose this location as the place is quiet and nobody is around - making it the ideal place for someone to make a deal. Filming late at night made the scene have a more mysterious and eerie feel.

Here are some pictures taken during filming.

PLANNING: CALL SHEET #2

My group and I have made our second call sheet for our film trailer.  Included in the call sheet are things such as the date of the shoot, the location, the crew, the equipment and the props and costumes. To give a better idea of our location we also included a map of where we were.

Making a call sheet makes sure that my group and I know when and where we are shooting and what we need to remember to bring on the day - in terms of equipment, props and costumes. This therefore also helps my group and I keep organised and prepared for the day, making our filming more quick and efficient on the day.

PLANNING: LOCATION RECCE 3

Today my group and I went on our third location recce at a building site in Kingston. We chose whereabouts to film the scenes in the building, allowing us to be more organised when it came to filming the scenes.

We felt that this location was ideal as it was a big, empty building site - thus making it feel more isolated. My group and I agreed to film at night as this gives a feeling of mysteriousness darkness and vulnerability. Below are some pictures taken from our location recce.

CONSTRUCTION: FILMING

Today Demi, Marcus and I made a start on filming our film trailer. We started off by filming at the shopping centre in Woking. Some shots we included whilst filming where things such as panning shots of Marcus running across the car park and a birds eye view shot of Marcus running up a staircase.

After completing the car park scenes we then moved onto scenes which were filmed at Marcus's house. The shots included panning shots of Demi, over the shoulder shots and long shots. Since both Marcus and Demi were acting in these scenes I did the majority of the filming. Below is another collage I made using BeFunky.

TRELLO UPDATE

I have, again, updated my trello. By constantly updating my trello list I am able to have a clear understanding as to what I need to do and what I have done.
I have started to move a lot of my tasks over from the "To Do" column to the "Doing" column. When I have completed these tasks I will then move them over to the "Done" column.

Below is a screenshot of my trello - or you can click HERE to view it online.

PLANNING: LOCATION RECCE 2

My group and I visited Peacocks Shopping Centre car park in Woking, Surrey as part of our location recce for our film trailer. During the location recce we took pictures of the car park to remind ourselves where we wanted to film and what the location looked like. We all liked this location as there was a lot of background buildings - giving a nice overview of the area.

We also noticed that the car park on the roof wasn't very busy and so this made it the ideal place to film as this would allow us to film tracking shots without any interruptions from moving cars going across the camera.

Below are some pictures we took of the car park

PLANNING: CALL SHEET #1

My group and I made our first call sheet for our film trailer.

PLANNING: DEATH REPORTS

For part of our film trailer we need a death report of Sydney. Demi said she would make this. Below are screenshots of the death reports made.

CONSTRUCTION: FILMING GRAVEYARD SCENE

Last week, 2 of my members revisited St George's Church Cemetery to film the graveyard scene as part of our film trailer. Since we are making a trailer we had to make sure that the scene was short and snappy. The 2 shots my members took were an establishing shot of the cemetery - allowing the audience to see the location of the scene - and also a mid shot, with part of the gravestone showing in part of the frame - suggesting to the audience that someone has died.
However, once Marcus and kate got to the graveyard they decided to include other shots aswell - such as a panning, close up shot and a tracking shot.

Below is a collage of some photos taken whilst filming.

PLANNING: LOCATION RECCE

Last week, my group and I decided to go to St George's Church Cemetery in Esher, Surrey for part of our location recce for our film trailer. We chose this graveyard because we felt it created that mysterious sort of feel for the scene.
Below are some pictures of the graveyard.

PLANNING: SCENE BY SCENE

I decided to create my own document which clearly states what happens in each scene. This gave me a clearer idea as to what is going to happen in our film trailer. Once I made this document I shared it with the rest of my group. Below are a few screenshots of my document.

PLANNING: UPDATE

Today in class my group and I planned more of our trailer idea in detail - coming up with new ideas for each scene. We wrote this down using our shared "Google Docs" document.
We have also started to write the script for the trailer.

MY TREATMENT

It’s 2015. AARON JONES a twenty-one year old and SYNDEY JONES a seventeen year old brother and sister live together after there parents were involved in a tragic accident when SYNDEY and AARON were youngsters. As a result of their death, SYNEY and AARON developed- a closer relationship.

SYDNEY, while still at school, starts to get involved with selling illegal passports in order to earn extra money. AARON notices his sister's lifestyle change such as her prolific spending and extravagant clothing. SYDNEY, one day, goes to complete a deal selling illegal passports to helpless, naïve and desperate refugees seeking asylum in Great Britain.

A husband, wife and baby refugee trio are desperate to seek salvation in the United Kingdom travelling afar to a receive a forged passport from SYDNEY and THE GHOST, her calculative, wealthy criminal businessman. THE GHOST is aggravated by SYDNEY bringing the refugees to the main warehouse where illegal passports and identification cards are being manufactured and distributed. THE GHOST reacts with force and violence hitting SYDNEY with a heavy, rough ceramic brick shouting, "How dare you! You could have comprised the whole operation! I am not a charity case!".

Evidence found by the police shows that AARON was associated with her death. AARON's objective is to right the wrong of the false accusation. He has been labeled as the culprit for his sister's death. He branches out the many ways to capture the real killer. He spreads out the death reports of SYDNEY, scrutinizing every detail to unveil the trail to lead him to the killer.

As AARON tries to solve the mystery of who killed his sister, and why she has been so violently murdered; AARON seeks advice from every person who has had involvement in her life. AARON tracks SYDNEY's steps prior to her death such as her bank account, Facebook, her phone and Twitter for her location, association with friends and extravagant spending.

TRELLO UPDATE

Today in class I updated my trello as well as making a new trello list. For my first list I completed this by moving everything over to the "Done" column, therefore reminding me that I have done everything I needed to. Click HERE to view my trello online.

For my new trello list, named My Trailer, October, I have made a whole new list of things that I need to complete. Once I start to make progress on these tasks I will drag the appropriate box over to the "Doing" column and then eventually the "Done" column. Click HERE to view my new trello list online.

PLANNING MY PRE PREP FOR TREATMENT

Today in class I looked at FutureLearn.  I was asked to think of a movie and think what the top line is. The film I chose was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The top line in this film is that there is a clash between good and evil which awaits as Harry Potter prepares for a final battle against Lord Voldemort. The big question is will Harry be able to defeat Voldemort?

For Franc Ash, Creative Consultant who has taught storytelling and creativity techniques to teams across the BBC and beyond, it is important to focus on the audience: what will interest the audience? How will the narrative develop?

He believes that if you're aiming for your film to reach a large audience online, making sure it has universal appeal will be key. Franc Ash created these couple of points below so that I was able to really think about the big question and top line for when it comes to making my own treatment:

  • Think about your favourite book or film or any ‘good story’ you recently watched online, could you sum up its narrative into ‘one elegant sentence’ to provide its ‘topline’?
  • What was its big story question, and how important was it to your appreciation of the text?"

In my treatment I will aim to define in my treatment:
  • the top line
  • the big question
As I begin to tell them a story, the first question is going to be, what is the story? What's it all about? What kind of a story is it? What's the issue, the content that this story is going to be dealing with?

A good way of finding these answers is to begin to think about I can synthesise and focus my story into one beautiful, elegant sentence. This is called the top line.

The second point, is to give them a sense of what the big story question is. What's going to happen? Will they win? Will they find the girl of their dreams? It's very much about giving them a question that gives them a sense of anticipation and suspense. It gives them a sense of waiting to hear how it's all going to be resolved at the end of my story.

In my trailer the top line will be - a man tries to avenge his sisters death by catching her killer without being convicted himself.  The big question is - will the brother be able to catch her killer without being found guilty of her death in the process.

RESEARCH: AUDIENCE

Today, I researched audiences as well as the theories of how audiences are influenced by text and how they interpret text. I have put my findings on an online infographic website, Picktochart.
